Baseball fans have the chance to see two major league baseball teams in action in south eastern and south western Pennsylvania – the Phillies and the Pirates.
Pittsburgh area vacationers and residents can enjoy professional baseball games during the season, while Philadelphia area residents and vacationers can watch the Phillies in action at their home games.
The Phillies date back to 1883. They play in the National League in the Eastern Division. Phillies stadium, where home games are played, is Citizens Bank Park in South Phillie.
The team has had its ups and downs and has won two world series and 7 pennants in the NL and 10 Eastern Division titles as of 2010.
One of the most famed players for the Phillies was Jackie Robinson. His #42 jersey was retired back in 1997. Other players whose jerseys were retired are Steve Carlton, Chuck Klein and Mike Schmidt.

The Pirates play in the Central Division of the National League. They were created in 1882. Like the Pittsburgh Steelers, they also wear the colors of black and gold.
The Pirates have 5 world series titles, the first occuring in 1909. Subsequent titles were won in 1925, 1960, 1971 and 1979. They also won 9 NL penants and 9 East Division titles.
Their nickname is the Bucs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates stadium where their home games are played is PNC Park. Previous games were played at Three Rivers Stadium up until 2000.
